When meeting new people the first thing we need to do is break the ice, this means to start a conversation with someone for the first time when you are probably both feeling a little shy. What are the questions we may ask when meeting a person for the first time?

Read the dialogue & practice with a friend.

A: How old are you?
B: I am forty-three years old.
A: This is your daughter. How old is she?
B: She is sixteen years old.
A: This is your son. How old is he?
B: He is thirteen years old.
A: How old are you girls?
C: We are eight years old.
A: Lina and Jina are twins. How old are they?
B: They are eight years old.
A: How old is it?
B: It is two years old.

To ask about someone’s age, we say:

  • How old are you?

To answer this question, we chose the number that represents our age and say:

  • I am thirty-four.

  • I am thirty-four years old.
